How a Miele oven signals trouble
A Miele H or DGC oven watches its cavity through a temperature sensor and runs bake, convection, steam and pyrolytic cleaning through an electronic control, but most oven complaints are symptom-led — not heating, a door that will not unlock after self-clean, uneven cooking — with a thin set of service F-codes behind them. Reading the signal is the start of any Miele oven repair, because each code points at the sensor, the door lock, the meat probe or the power electronics, while a symptom points at the element, the fan or a mode in progress.
The service codes you may see
F05 is an oven temperature-sensor short and F06 an open sensor — the usual cause of erratic or absent heat. F07/F09 are catalyst-sensor faults, F23 means the pyrolytic cycle did not reach temperature, and F32/F33 are the pyrolytic door failing to lock or unlock. F54 is a meat-probe short — often cleared simply by unplugging the probe — F55 a safety cut-off after a maximum duration, and F60 the power electronics running too hot.
The symptoms that lead diagnosis
Many oven issues never show a number. An oven not heating, an “F” flashing that needs a reset, a door that will not unlock after self-clean (often F33), a self-clean that will not start (F23/F32), an oven that shuts off mid-bake (F55), uneven cooking or a blank display are all read from behaviour. On an HR range, the surface burners have no code table at all, so a burner that will not light or burns unevenly is diagnosed as a gas symptom rather than a fault number.
What to check, and when to call
For a one-off “F” flash, switch the oven off at the breaker for a minute and watch the panel; for a meat-probe error, unplug the probe. A persistent F05/F06 sensor code, an F32/F33 latch fault that strands the door locked, an F23 self-clean failure or an F60 overheating fault needs an experienced, independent technician with genuine parts.
