Reading a Miele model number
Miele model numbers look cryptic, but once you can read the prefix you can identify the appliance, the technology inside and the parts a repair will need. The first letters name the family — G for dishwashers, W for washers, T for dryers, K/KF/F for MasterCool refrigeration, KWT for wine, H and DGC for ovens, KM for cooktops, KMR for rangetops and HR for ranges. Miele writes its US model numbers in a spaced form (for example G 7966 SCVi), and the trailing letters encode the finish and configuration. Browse the families from the appliances overview or jump into the model library.
Laundry and dishwasher model families
Dishwashers use the G prefix: the flagship G 7000 series (G 7966 SCVi, G 7591 SCVi, G 7156 SCVi) with AutoDos, Knock2open and M Touch at 38 dBA, and the entry G 5000 series (G 5266 SCVi SF, G 5056 SCVi, G 5008 SCU) with DirectSelect. SCVi marks fully integrated, SCU built-under. Washers use the W prefix (WXR860 WCS, WXI860 WCS, WWH860 WCS, WWB020 WCS) and dryers the T prefix (TXR860 WP, TXI680 WP, TWB120 WP); on laundry the prefix is the feature tier, not the size — all are 24-inch. Service starts at dishwasher repair, washer repair or dryer repair.
Refrigeration model families
MasterCool refrigeration reads by configuration. Combination columns use KF (KF 2982 Vi 36-inch French-door, KF 2902 Vi 36-inch bottom-freezer, KF 2802 Vi 30-inch); single-temperature refrigerator columns use K (K 2902 Vi 36-inch, K 2802 Vi 30-inch, K 2602 Vi 24-inch); and dedicated freezer columns use F (F 2902 Vi 36-inch, F 2412 Vi 24-inch, F 2472 Vi 18-inch). KFN 7795 D is a PerfectCool bottom-mount. Wine reserves use KWT (KWT 2612 Vi 24-inch 104-bottle three-zone, KWT 6722 iS dual-zone, KWT 6322 UG undercounter). Vi means integrated and panel-ready; SF means a stainless front. Service begins at refrigerator repair or wine cooler repair.
Cooking model families
Ovens read by suffix: BP is pyrolytic (H 7280 BP, H 7580 BP, H 7880 BP, H 7263 BP 24-inch), BM is a speed combi-microwave (H 7240 BM AM, H 7770 BM) and DGC is combi-steam (DGC 7440 AM, DGC 7780 30-inch); the AM suffix marks a US model, and the US lineup is combi-steam DGC rather than pure-steam DG. Cooktops use KM — induction in the KM 77xx range (KM 7720 FR 24-inch, KM 7730 FR 30-inch, KM 7740 FR 36-inch) and sealed-burner gas (KM 3465 G 30-inch, KM 3475 G 36-inch), where FR is framed, FL flush and G gas. Rangetops use KMR (KMR 1124-3 G 30-inch, KMR 1134-3 G 36-inch, KMR 1135-3 G GR grill) and are a cooktop only. Ranges use HR and include an oven (HR 1124-3 G AG 30-inch gas, HR 1622-3 I 30-inch induction, HR 1924-3 G DF dual-fuel). Service starts at oven repair, cooktop repair, rangetop repair or range repair.
The HR, KMR and KM split
One distinction is worth getting right before you look up a cooking model, because it changes the parts and the service entirely. HR is a freestanding range that includes its own oven below the burners. KMR is a rangetop — the burners only, with no oven, designed to pair with a separate wall oven. KM is a drop-in cooktop that sits in the counter. M Pro rangetops and ranges share the same Dual Stacked sealed burners and TrueSimmer, but only the HR range carries an oven cavity, sensor and door lock. Reading the prefix tells a technician immediately whether an oven is part of the appliance at all.
Product lines and finishes
Beyond the family prefix, a Miele appliance number ends in a finish and configuration code that looks like a typo but is meaningful: SCVi versus SCU on a dishwasher, Vi versus SF on refrigeration, FR versus FL on a cooktop, and AG, I, DF or GD on a range. Two units that share a prefix can take different panels, hinges or burner modules, which is why a technician needs the complete spaced model number rather than just the prefix. Miele groups these into model lines such as Generation 7000 for built-in ovens and MasterCool for refrigeration.
Decoding and servicing your model
A Miele model number combines the family prefix, a number and a finish suffix — reading all of it identifies the exact build. The rating plate is usually on an interior side wall, along a door jamb, behind a drawer, or on the underside of a cooktop; record the full spaced string before you book. If your appliance is showing a fault, start with the error-code library, then match the family above. Our experienced, independent technicians service every Miele family regardless of age, using genuine parts matched to the build, and specifications can be confirmed on the manufacturer’s site at mieleusa.com. When you have your model in hand, schedule a repair — pricing starts from a clear diagnostic fee, with the final cost depending on the parts and configuration, and our labor is guaranteed.
