Miele FragranceDos is an optional scent dosing feature for Miele dryers: a small flacon of fragrance sits in a holder in the dryer, and during the drying program a little of the scent is released into the airflow so the laundry comes out lightly perfumed. It is a comfort feature, not a drying feature, so it never changes how a load dries, and you can turn the intensity up, down or off. If the dryer smells of something you did not choose, the flacon is the first place to look.
What is Miele FragranceDos?
FragranceDos is a dosing option, in the same spirit as the detergent dosing systems on Miele washers. A fragrance flacon is fitted into a dedicated holder in the dryer, and the dryer releases a small, measured amount of scent into the warm air during a program. The purpose is a fresh, mild smell on towels and clothes without adding a separate product to the load. It is available on selected Miele dryers, so check your model’s manual to confirm it is part of yours.
Because it is a dosing feature, the amount of scent is controlled by the dryer, not by how much you pour in. That is the main difference from scented sheets or balls, which are tossed into the drum and leave residue on fabric and on the lint screen. Our Miele CapDosing glossary explains the washer-side equivalent for detergent.
How does the flacon work?
The flacon is a small container that holds liquid fragrance. When you insert it into the holder, the dryer can draw a small amount of fragrance as air passes, or release it at a set point in the program. The control board decides when and how much. You do not touch the liquid during normal use. When the flacon is empty, you replace it with a new one, or refill it where your manual allows.
The fragrance is released into the dryer’s air path, not poured onto the laundry, so it reaches clothes as a light vapor and settles into the fibers. This is why the effect is subtle. If you want a stronger scent, you increase the intensity setting rather than adding anything else. The detail of the holder’s position varies by model, so the owner’s manual shows where yours sits.
Handle flacons the way you would any small bottle of concentrated fragrance. Keep them upright and closed when they are out of the dryer, store them away from heat and sunlight, and keep them out of reach of children and pets. If a flacon leaks or you spill any liquid, wipe it up at once with a dry cloth and let the holder dry before you start a cycle. Fit a new flacon firmly until it seats, since a flacon that sits loose can dose unevenly or not at all, and that is the most common reason people think the feature has stopped working.

How do you set the intensity or turn FragranceDos off?
On models that have it, the setting lives in the dryer’s menu or in the options for a program. You can usually pick a level, from a faint touch to a stronger scent, or switch the feature off altogether. Choose the lowest level at first, because the scent can be stronger than expected in a small load or in a room with limited ventilation. Raise it only if you cannot smell anything after a few loads.
If you do not want any scent, switch the feature off in the settings and remove the flacon from the holder. Leaving a flacon in place when the feature is off keeps it in contact with the warm air path, and old fragrance can fade or turn stale. Some people with sensitive skin or allergies prefer to keep towels and baby clothes unscented, and turning the feature off for those loads is the simplest way.
How is FragranceDos different from other dryer terms?
The table below separates it from the terms that appear around it in the manual.
The important point is that FragranceDos plays no part in drying. A load that comes out damp has a drying problem, not a fragrance problem, and our Miele dryer not drying guide is the place to start.
What if the dryer smells odd even with FragranceDos?
A musty, burnt or sour smell is not fragrance. It points to lint, moisture or a fault. A damp smell can come from a dirty filter or a heat exchanger that needs cleaning, and our guide to Miele heat pump dryer heat exchanger cleaning covers that routine task. A burning smell is a reason to stop the dryer and unplug it. Adding fragrance does not cure either.
Another cause of strange smells is an old or leaking flacon. If the scent seems wrong, remove the flacon, wipe the holder with a dry cloth and run a normal load without it. If the smell is gone, the flacon was the source. For more on dryer odors, see our Miele dryer tips.
