How long do Miele dishwashers last? We do not have a verified number to give you. Our model pages and guides do not publish a service life for Miele dishwashers, and we will not repeat a figure we cannot support. What we can tell you is what separates a dishwasher that keeps going from one that needs repeated attention, and how to judge whether a repair makes sense when something does fail. For a number you can rely on, look at the documentation and warranty that came with your machine.
Is there a real number for how long Miele dishwashers last?
You will find lifespan figures online, including claims that a Miele dishwasher will run for twenty years. We cannot confirm or deny any of them. Nothing on our model pages or in our guides states a service life for these machines, so we have nothing to quote. A figure without a source is a sales line, not an answer, and a real dishwasher can fall short of it or exceed it depending on how it is installed, how hard water is where you live, how it is loaded and how well it is maintained.
If a precise figure matters for a purchase, ask the seller or the manufacturer to put it in writing and read the warranty terms. Warranty length is not the same as lifespan, but it is the part the manufacturer actually commits to. On our side we can describe the machine as it is: our model pages list the dishwashers as built-in models with sensor wash systems, quiet operation and adjustable racking, and say nothing about years of service.
What helps a Miele dishwasher last?
Our guides point to a short list of habits. The water softener is first. Our guide explains that Miele dishwashers soften incoming water with an ion-exchange softener that needs reactivation salt to regenerate, and that with salt and the correct hardness setting, glasses come out clear. Run the salt reservoir empty and hard-water minerals leave a chalky film. Use dishwasher reactivation salt, not table salt, and set the hardness to match your supply. Our Miele dishwasher salt guide has the detail.
Next is the filter. Our guide calls cleaning the filter the single most valuable few minutes of maintenance, because a clogged filter is behind a large share of odor, poor-cleaning and F11 drainage complaints. It also points out that a filter that re-clogs within days suggests food is not being scraped off before loading. Our filter cleaning guide describes the steps, and the dishwasher tips guide lists the habits that go with it, such as keeping the rinse aid topped up and loading so tall items do not block the spray arms.
None of these habits costs much, and they are the ones a technician would recommend. They will not give you a guaranteed number of years, but they remove the most common avoidable causes of early trouble, and they make it easier to tell a normal wear fault from a self-inflicted one when you do need a repair.

Does installation affect how long it lasts?
It affects how it behaves from day one. Our installation guide says most brand-new dishwasher problems are installation errors, not defects: a drain hose without a high loop or air gap, a disposer knockout plug left in, a cabinet that is not level, or a softener that has no salt and no hardness setting. Getting those right before the first wash prevents drainage errors and leak trips that would otherwise wear on the machine. Read Miele dishwasher installation if yours was fitted recently or moved.
When does age tip a repair into a replacement?
Our Miele dishwasher repair or replace guide says the decision depends on the specific part that failed and the age of the machine, not on a rule of thumb. It treats a single common part, such as a filter, drain pump, door lock or inlet valve, on a machine only a few years old as a clear repair when the machine otherwise cleans, dries and runs well. It leans toward replacement when a major component, such as a control board, circulation pump or cracked sump, fails on a much older unit, or when several problems appear close together and suggest general wear.
It also tells you to weigh the age of the machine, whether replacement parts are still readily available and whether a newer model would bring features you actually want. None of that needs a lifespan number; it needs a diagnosis. A technician can tell you which part failed and whether anything else is close behind.
What should you do if yours is acting up?
Note any F-code and what the machine was doing when it appeared. If there is water on the floor near an outlet, switch off the breaker at the panel while standing on a dry floor, and never pull a plug from a wet outlet. Do not open panels. Our Miele dishwasher repair page explains how a visit works. We are an independent service, and where a repair is not worth doing, we say so.
