Miele QuickIntenseWash is the short-cycle option on the W1 washers, and the best way to use it is for small, lightly or moderately soiled loads of everyday cottons and synthetics that you need back quickly, with a measured dose of detergent and a stain pretreated by hand. It is not the right choice for heavily soiled work clothes, wool or delicates, which need the longer program for the fabric and the soil. Used for the right load it saves time without giving up a clean result.

What is Miele QuickIntenseWash?

QuickIntenseWash is one of the programs on the Miele W1 compact 24-inch front loaders. It is a shortened wash for loads that do not need a long, gentle cycle, and it compensates for the shorter time with a more focused wash action. Our model list shows it on every W1 washer, from the entry WWB020WCS to the top-tier WXR860WCS, alongside SingleWash and AddLoad. The details of timing and temperature depend on your model and the version of its software, so read the program chart in your operating instructions for the exact figures.

In everyday terms, it is the program for the Tuesday-night problem: a school shirt, a gym kit or a work shirt that you need for the morning, without waiting for a standard cotton cycle.

Which loads suit QuickIntenseWash?

  • Everyday cottons and synthetics that are lightly or moderately soiled.
  • Small to medium loads, so the water and the detergent can work on every item.
  • Fresh stains that you have pretreated and that have not set.
  • Items you wear once and want freshened, such as a shirt, a towel or kids’ clothes.

Keep the load smaller than you would for a regular cycle. A drum packed to the door has no room for the clothes to move, and a short program has no spare time to make up for it. Use the amount of detergent shown for the load and the water hardness, rather than doubling up to compensate for the shorter time; too much detergent leaves residue and a smell, particularly in a compact front loader.

Which loads should you keep away from it?

Skip QuickIntenseWash for heavily soiled work clothes, muddy sports gear, greasy items, bulky bedding and anything delicate. Wool, silk and hand-wash items need a gentle program for the fabric, and our Miele washer tips explain how to choose it. Items with baked-in stains need time, a pretreatment and often a soak, not speed. A short program also gives less time for a bulky item to rinse out, so big comforters and thick towels should stay on a standard cycle.

If you are unsure, check the care label first. The label wins over any program name.

How do you get the best result from a short program?

  1. Sort by color and fabric, and keep the load small.
  2. Pretreat visible stains with a dab of detergent worked in gently, and let it sit a few minutes before loading.
  3. Check pockets and zip closures, because a short cycle has no time to rinse out tissue and sand.
  4. Use the right dose. With CapDosing or TwinDos, use the capsule or the dosing setting recommended for the load size; our guides to how Miele TwinDos works and the CapDosing glossary explain both.
  5. Select QuickIntenseWash, confirm any options and start.
  6. Take the load out promptly and leave the door ajar afterward so the drum dries.

What if you forget something? The AddLoad option

All W1 washers on our list also have AddLoad, which lets you add an item after the cycle has started, within the window the washer allows. Press the button, wait for the door to unlock and add the missing sock or shirt, then close the door firmly. On a short program the window closes sooner than on a long one, so add the item as soon as you notice it. Never force the door; if it will not open, the washer is telling you the water level or temperature is too high, and our guide to a Miele washer door that will not open explains why.

Does a short program save energy or water?

It saves time and often some energy, because the machine is on for less time and may use a lower temperature. It does not necessarily save water, and it can cost you in a second wash if the load comes out less clean than you wanted. The most efficient routine is to use QuickIntenseWash for the loads it suits and the standard program for the rest, and to keep the drum clean so every cycle works well; see our Miele washer descaling guide for the periodic care.

How do water hardness and detergent change the result?

A short program leaves less time for detergent to dissolve and rinse out, so the dose matters more than usual. In soft water, a smaller dose is enough, and extra only causes suds; in hard water, a slightly larger dose or a water softening additive keeps the wash effective. Use liquid or capsule detergent for short programs where possible, because powder can leave a trace of undissolved residue on dark fabrics when the cycle is brief. If dark clothes come out with a gray film or light clothes feel stiff, the cause is nearly always the dose and the hardness, not the program.

Frequently asked questions
What is QuickIntenseWash on a Miele washer?
It is a shortened wash program on the W1 washers, meant for lightly or moderately soiled everyday loads that you need quickly.
Can I wash towels on QuickIntenseWash?
Small loads of lightly used towels are fine. Bulky or heavily used towels do better on a standard cycle with a full rinse.
How long does QuickIntenseWash take?
It depends on the model and the options chosen. Check the program chart in your operating instructions for the exact time.
Why do my clothes smell after a short cycle?
Too much detergent, too large a load or a drum that needs cleaning are the usual causes. Reduce the dose, wash less at a time and run a cleaning program.
